Uta Competes as a Master for First Time

September 29, 2005

Three-time Boston Marathon Champion Uta Pippig begins a new chapter in her prestigious running career when she competes for the first time as a Master at the Ollie Road Race on Sunday, October 2nd in South Boston.

Uta has been one of the premier athletes in the sport throughout her running career—winning three consecutive Boston Marathons, three Berlin Marathons, and one New York City Marathon. The two-time Olympian plans on building on that success as she begins competing in the 40 and over Masters category.

“I have been training hard and am really looking forward to competing this weekend,” said Uta. “Massachusetts is like home to me, and the Ollie Road Race has always been one of my favorite events. I couldn’t imagine entering this new phase of my career anywhere else.”

The Ollie Road Race benefits the South Boston Neighborhood House, an organization that has been improving the quality of life for families in the South Boston area since 1901.

When Uta is not training, she is focused on sharing her knowledge of training, exercise, yoga, and stress management through her Take the Magic Step™ program. This multi-tiered approach to healthy living is targeted towards small groups of individuals, corporate groups and has helped many people.

Uta has also taken action to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina and tries to encourage others to join her. All of the proceeds from Uta merchandise sold on her Website from now until the end of the year will be donated to the relief effort. With the help of a generous corporate partner, they have already helped to relocate 24 people from New Orleans to Florida, provided them with food, clothing, housing, and assisted them in their job searches.
